Young Gifted and Talented Accredited Provider YOU COULD SPEND A LIFETIME EXPLORING THE DIVERSITY OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM but why is it diverse? We know that animals adapt to their environment, but can we explain exactly how this happens? There are a lot of hows and whys in evolution, some of which are easier than others. This programme opens up the topic for students, and empowers them by giving them the overview.

Through talk, interactive games and online investigation, pupils will:
  • learn, or review the processes of mutation and selection
  • explore some individual species' adaptations and speculate about their evolutionary roots
  • develop their understanding of how theories work
  • ask 'why' and 'how' questions about the process of evolution, exploring it down to the molecular level
  • consider why evolution is such a powerful idea
  • play games based on the concept of adaptation and selection to come up with unexpected outcomes
  • learn sophisticated new concepts that will prepare them for future study in biology
  • learn terms from academic biology
All they need is curiosity, and some experience of living in the natural world.

rule

Who is it for?

It's for all students 7-14, but we also do a special "stretching" version for students identified as gifted.

rule

What's the relevance to the curriculum?

This programme explores one of the most important ideas in the history of science, and is intrinsically useful in the study of all life science. There is also a crossover to citizenship, when we consider the philosophical implications of the theory of evolution.

rule

Where does it happen and when?

It happens in your school, as a face-to-face session.

There are a few different options, but the important thing is that you set the schedule. You don't have to fit in with specific dates or struggle with clashes.

See the menu on the right for all the options.

How do I book?

Why does the gifted option cost? This sort of thing used to be free for London state schools...

Did you know that the funding model has changed for gifted and talented students in London? Before, the money was given to a company (LGT) that provided free resources. Now the money is going direct to schools for them to spend on a wider range of programmes. Ask your headteacher about funds available for gifted students.
